Its warm and tropical weather will compel you to dive into its beautiful clear sea for repeated sessions of scuba diving! And if scuba diving is not your cup of tea, then pamper yourself with some of Maldives’ exotic spa sessions offering traditional massages passed on for generations as family secrets by the hakeembe (healing experts). Have I excited you enough? Trust me, this is just the beginning!

Top 5 Things To Do In Maldives

1) Scuba Diving

If you’ve never been scuba diving before, Maldives would be a divine place to start!! Atoll Scuba’s goal is to encourage everyone to take up and enjoy this recreational sport and explore the amazing wonders of underwater world.  You will feel humbled when you are out there staring in front of the vast and mighty ocean. And then you dive into another new world waiting out there. Looking up at the rays of sun light breaking through the surface of the water, you can’t help but marvel. By the end of it, you will definitely thank me!

3) Night Fishing

To experience the satisfaction of catching and cooking your own fish, night fishing in maldivesa night reef fishing trip is the way to go! Fishing is in the Maldivian blood. Make sure you leave before the sunset to find a good spot near a reef. Use the lines, hooks, and sinker & you will definitely catch enough to fill your barbecue grill in about an hour’s time.

4) Shopping

Well to be honest Maldives is not exactly a shopper’s paradise but some of things I assure you won’t get anywhere else! Many of the shops around the bazaar have interesting collections of old silver and antique jewellery originating from India and Sri Lanka. Do not forget to pick up a set or two of shark’s jaws as a souvenir of your trip. Another must-have memento is a lacquerware known as lielaa jehun, which comes from the island of Thuladhoo in Baa Atoll. Traditionally made from local wood, the lacquerware is crafted into items such as walking sticks, boxes, trays and vases. Really beautiful! Reed Mats are another local handicraft item worth considering. These mats are naturally dyed and often carry interesting black and brown motifs.

5) National Museum

Housed in a small, three-storey building in one corner of the Sultan’s Park, Maldive’s National Museum is the only remaining part of the original sultan’s palace. A rather gaudy new Chinese-gifted building has been built next door, which the museum will eventually move in to, making way for the old building to house a reconstruction of how the Sultan’s Palace’s interiors would have looked.

So, when are you booking your tickets 😉 ?
